We created the Ultimate Backyard Gardener Bundle to solve this problem. It’s a complete seed starting kit with everything needed for a successful start to your garden, every season, all in one box. This article explains what's inside and how to use these tools for the best results.

What's Inside the Ultimate Backyard Gardener Bundle?

It includes Bootstrap Farmer's durable trays, plus cell trays and pots designed to make up potting easier. They are also designed for compact storage, nesting together neatly to save space in a shed or garage when the season ends.

Heavy-Duty USA Made Seed Trays and Pots

The kit includes:

  • 1020 Trays: Extra-strength trays that won't bend or break, even when full of soil and water.

  • 6 Cell Inserts: These give each seedling space to grow strong roots without competition, and air pruning slits keep plants from getting root-bound.

  • Humidity Domes: These fit over trays to create a mini-greenhouse, keeping soil moist and warm to speed germination. (Also available without humidity domes.)

  • 3.3 Inch Pots: Perfect for potting up your heat-loving plants, like tomatoes and peppers that need more time indoors. These pots also work great for cucurbits like cucumbers that hate having their roots disturbed, providing them with plenty of room to grow, so you only need to transplant once.

  • Pot Inserts: Designed to rest on the edge of a Bootstrap Farmer 1020 deep tray, the inserts keep your pots upright and protect your plants while you carry them in and out for hardening off.

How to Use Your Seed Starting Kit: A Step-by-Step Guide

All pieces in this bundle work together. This makes seed starting simple and effective, even for beginners.

  1. Prepare Trays: Fill cell inserts with a damp, high-quality seed starting mix. Place filled inserts inside a solid 1020 bottom tray.

  2. Use a second cell tray to press down on the soil firmly.

  3. Plant Seeds: Plant seeds twice as deep as they are wide. Drop one or two seeds in each depression.

  4. Cover with soil.

  5. Label Everything: Use plant labels or painters tape to mark each row or tray with the plant variety and planting date.

  6. Water Gently: Use a sprayer to mist soil surface until evenly moist.

  7. Create Humidity: Place the humidity dome over the tray to lock in moisture and warmth. Put the tray in a warm spot to germinate.

  8. Care for Seedlings: Once seeds sprout, remove the dome and move the tray to a sunny spot or under a grow light. Water as needed, preferably into the bottom tray to encourage deep root growth.

For plants like cucumbers that do not like to have their roots disturbed, follow the steps above but use the larger pots.

Up Potting your Seedlings

Heat loving crops like tomatoes and peppers will likely need more time indoors before they can move out to the garden. They should be potted up into the 3.3 inch post to give them space and more available nutrients. Once overnight temperatures are warm enough, you can harden them off and transplant out.

From Strong Seedlings to a Thriving Garden

This kit helps you grow strong, healthy seedlings. When it's time to move them outdoors, their robust root systems give them a great start. These carefully grown transplants are perfect for your garden.

For best results, consider planting them in our metal Raised Garden Beds. They provide excellent drainage, warm up faster in spring, and reduce weed pressure, creating an ideal home for new plants.
